School Counseling Services

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling consists of a one on one confidential counseling session in a private setting.  There are many reasons to refer a child for individual counseling.  Referrals can be made by students, parents, teachers, or administrators.  For more information, please contact your child's teacher or me directly.

Small Group Counseling

Small group counseling is for students that are pre-selected by myself or teachers.  Permission from parents is required for participation.  Groups usually consist of 6-8 students and meet at least once a week for 3 or 4 weeks.  Possible topics include anger management, divorce, study skills, new students and grief.

Classroom Guidance

I visit each classroom once a month.  Lesson topics include bullying, safety, organization, making friends, conflict resolution, character education, careers, tattling, etc.

All classroom guidance lessons follow the standards and expectations for academic, career, and personal/ social development outlined in the Tennessee Model for Comprehensive School Counseling.  To view these standards, please click on the link below:

Coordination & Collaboration

I meet with the elementary counselors monthly to discuss topics to better serve my students.  I also coordinate and collaborate with teachers in order to help students succeed better academically and socially.  I also help parents with suggestions on how to transition positive behavior from home to the classroom.

Important Notice:

Counseling sessions are kept confidential with the following exceptions:

1. The student is being harmed.

2. The student threatens to harm himself or herself.

3. The student is harming someone else.
